Honda WQ Overview

The Honda WQ Armrest was developed with 3 distinct materials. The original pattern was fabricated with a total of 8 pieces, this re-design lowered the component total to 6. Each side was originally comprised of 3 pieces, a total of 6 pieces for both armrest sides. The total cost reduction was calculated to be 80 cents per piece.

Front Revision

The plus pad was eliminated without affecting overall appearance.

The retainer and cup strap was eliminated.

Back Revision

The plastic retainer and cup strap was eliminated.

The inherent property of the fabric was used to mimic the resistance and tension of the retainer.

Identical die cuts on each side, replacing two unique die cuts.

Overview

The original was made with 3 pattern pieces per side. Additionally, each side had a distinct die cut, one side for pins and the other die cut for the pivot pins.

Side Revision

The side component total was reduced by 2 pieces for a total of 4 instead of 6.

The necessity for two different die cuts on each side was eliminated by changing the installation sequence.

Each side was originally comprised of 3 pieces, a total count of 6 pattern pieces per armrest. That was reduced to a total count of 4 pattern pieces per armrest.
